One of my favorite stories from my early 20's is meeting Bob Ritchie. I was in East Lansing for Spring Break when the town was pretty empty (had an internship). Bob was in town for his cousin's 21st birthday and a girlfriend of mine was friends with the cousin who was devastated that his bar crawl would be so small. . .so I came out (to be the second girl in the group).Bob chatted me up A LOT. @jennifer I have heard a lot of good stories about the guy. A woman I worked with spent a lot of time at one of the recording studios in Nashville that he used. She said he always checked in on everyone in the place and wanted to hear about what was going on with them. Said he was pretty much the opposite of his on-stage persona.

@NoBeret This was 1996 and he was picking up traction in Detroit especially, but I had no idea who he was. . .he was just Bob, so-and-so's cousin.I actually didn't know Bob was Kid Rock until a couple of years later. That same girlfriend who got me to come out that night, saw his "Behind the Music" and was stunned. We laughed and laughed. But really, I am not his type. . .brunette and IBTC. Still a fun story.

@darrenoneill This was 1996 and I remember he was a bit full of himself (which you should expect from a 25ish yo who was starting to get reallly popular).At one point, he actually said to me "Don't you know who I am?"Of course I didn't. I thought he was weird. :) Funny, yes, but also big ego. And I was woke not awake back then, so. . .

@sirphenom I only went to undergrad there (Mich State) and then moved to Chiraq as you know. I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, so I was a temp Michigander.

@jennifer @darrenoneill First time I ever met him he was buying some dried up flowers off my buddy's brother in Romeo in the mid 80s 🚬 He had a hightop hairdo like Kid from Kid-n-Play. I remember asking how much hairspray he had to use to get his hair to stay like that, he said "A LOT". 😂

@NetNed @darrenoneill That's awesome - when I met him, his hair was short (and not spiked), but he'd already adopted the flannel look of the 90's grunge bands. Def had the goatee(ish) though.He bought my drinks. I can't complain. :)
