In 9 out of 10 drone videos from the frontline I watch, the drone video feed gets noisy and glitchy on approach, and about 5-30 meters before impact starts cutting out completely. Is this because modern day tanks and armoured vehicles have radio jammers? Or is it a consequence of the drone diving towards the ground, thereby resulting in more obstacles between the drone and its operator? Or something else?@anderspuck perhaps?

@randahl Det bliver et gæt, men et bud er at dronen kommer under horisonten og mister forbindelsen. Et andet bud kan være at der er en lille forsinkelse på transmissionen, og at dronen aldrig når at sende de sidste meter.

@randahl @anderspuck russian electronic warfare is pretty good, covers big areashttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krasukha

@Czarnobajewka This is a big "maybe", because it can't work on all frequencies and all modulations at once. The 2,4 GHz range is within the S band used for radar. It may work, but you need a line of sight for jamming. I don't think they have enough Krasukhas for this. They probably use possible portable jammers. Hard to tell from a few images. /cc @randahl @anderspuck

@anderspuck @randahl Probably not transmission delay, having that much lag would make the drone impossible to control at speed. DJI control protocol has sub 10 ms (half a frame) latency. And exactly because it's such a low latency link, it's also really sensitive to radio dropoff, so, yeah, getting low and behind obstructions would do it. Remember these drones are flying quite far away from their pilots.

@randahl @anderspuck I have noticed that. I think it’s jamming. But have you also noticed that the pilots skilfully have made their attack run follow ballistic curves so even a total wipe out of signal still results in an RPG hitting the back of the tank in the sweet spot*?*Between the turret and hull at the back below the shells

@taatm yes. It seems to me, the his we see now are much more skillful than what we saw a year ago. While this is likely because of operator experience, this could also in part be caused by improved equipment — better motors, better visual feedback hardware, better controls, and so on.@anderspuck

@randahl @taatm Definitely they are working hard to improve the guidance system to improve accuracy, and so it will be possible to operate the drones with less training.

@nightlynx @randahl @anderspuck It's not the only one electronic warfare system they use, they have much morehttps://sprotyvg7.com.ua/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/COGINT_Analytic_Insight_Report_Russian_EW_Systems__231119_114942.pdf
