@stefano Nice! I once ran an instance of Mastodon on FreeBSD and it worked quite well. Never tried it in a jail.

@housepanther At BSD Cafe, I've set up a jail for each service (Redis, Elasticsearch, Postgresql, s3 media storage, etc.). It works, is fast enough and stable.

@stefano In all of my attempts, I have *never* gotten Elasticsearch to work. That in of itself seems to be a feat!

@housepanther Elastic setup has not been described by this post, but I haven't found big problems with it. Should you try, feel free to contact me if you have any problem.

@stefano Thank you! I am sure my failures to get Elasticsearch going is a "me" problem. 😹

@housepanther We all have to deal with failures before getting things to work. It's normal, it's a part of the fun 🙂

@freezr yes. It can also run on a Raspberry PI for a single user instance, but I'd not do it. It can use a lot of traffic and storage in less time you'd expect 😄

@stefano I have a doubt. How you start the instance? Is it done at the restart of the container?

@poes in this case, to keep things easier, yes. Of course, in production I have different jails for different services.

@solobsd I've enclosed the rc scripts in the last part of the article.
