Deals on Kindles may seem attractive, but don't forget Amazon is one of the most devoted peddlers of DRM. We prefer books we can loan to our friends, free of restriction and prying eyes. Read more about how to live DRM-free: https://u.fsf.org/1aj #EndDRM #DRM #BoycottAmazon #Amazon

@endDRM FWIW, people can side-load DRM-free books onto a Kindle. Of course, if the goal is to avoid supporting Amazon in any way, then buying a Kindle from them may be an issue.

@endDRM I am one of those rare people who has always hated Amazonbut it has become almost in escapable; it sometimes requires a serious effort to avoid AMZN when shopping on line !!

LB: I had a Kindle for a year or so, and while it really did reignite my love of reading (it’s not just a clever name), how hard they make it to side-load books soon pissed me off royally. So when it developed a fault, I ended up managing to score a full refund, which I used to buy a Kobo and have enjoyed that ever since. The only downside to the Kobo is that books are usually far cheaper on Amazon, and you have to jump through so many hoops to strip the DRM. But I manage it. You knows I do.

@endDRM You can always decrypt Kindle books with open source software. Been doing this since my first Kindle. https://jeffmcneill.com/calibre/

@endDRM Amazon literally gives you the choice when you upload books. No self-pub uses it.Amazon only cares about money, anything that reduces sales is of no interest to them. The option is probably there because the big publishers insisted.(I'm not saying this because I'm a huge fan of Amazon - but let's just put responsibility where it's [most likely] due.)

@endDRM plus, Amazon is anti union so you probably should just burn that account all the way down so you don't forget to boycott them
