When I ask the same group how many use GPT-4, almost no one raises their hand. I increasingly think the decision of OpenAI to make the “bad” AI free is causing people to miss why AI seems like such a huge deal to a minority of people that use advanced systems and elicits a shrug from everyone else.

@simon But many of the people they asked are likely using Bing Chat and don’t realise they are using GPT-4 already.

@simon I think he's right. The gulf between those using GPT4 and everyone else was really noticeable at the Fantastic Futures conference.

@simon I was using the paid version for some time (GPT4), but at some point the results' quality declined abruptly. Then I stopped paying.I suspect that introducing tons of new safety measures has crippled its ability to "reason" at the level it had to be to be useful for my use cases (for example, it because too "polite & respectful" when I asked him to criticise my texts; and I even witnessed how GPT4 became "crazy" generating gibberish when I presented a technical text with code in it)

@0x1ac I believe Bing chat is only GPT-4 if you select "Creative" mode for it, which most people don't

@simon I've been paying for OpenAI since before GPT4 was released. I wanted to see what they'd do. I'm fairly close to cancelling.If this is a possible future; I see little utility in it, and find that it's people like you, that have prior history of gaining interesting solutions from tech others don't, that do the best.

@simon You're trying to sell a spreadsheet that gets WRONG ANSWERS 5% of the time with free access to one that's wrong 15% of the time. Not the same.By my value of "wrong answer" which means "I have to put in more work on it, just as if I'd written it all myself".Early scanning was ineffective because of a .2% error rate; 10 mistakes per 5000-char page. But then you had to find them, get the cursor there, and fix them.Patching up AI verbiage or code may be the same just now.

@simon @0x1ac FYI when installing bing on iOS, at first run it specifically asks if you want to use GPT-4, which is on by default.

@rhaidiz @0x1ac wow it's all so confusing - Bing in Mobile Safari doesn't offer that option, but does have the Creative mode... but also implies that GPT-4 is only available in the iOS app even though it's also in Creative mode
