       Not online much yesterday but I guess we're back to white dudes wringing their hands because they can't prompt large language models to use slurs to save white people, a hypothetical I'd argue says more about what white dudes think saves white people than about LLMs.

       The dangers of LLMs is they might learn our prejudices and apply them at scale while adding another layer of deniability. There are many actual scenarios to point to, many actual exacerbations of actual discriminations. But when has uttering a slur ever saved anything? Why the immediate assumption that AIs inability to do so poses a risk? Why the assumption that it poses a risk to white people? What quiet slurs currently spoken does the author fear might be lost to the danger of all?

       And how should an AI be taught to detect and define "white"? Who should teach it to the AI, and why should that concept be taught?I don't think AI should be given power in matters of life or death—but not because I think they haven't been properly instructed in when it is situationally appropriate to do a racism, and I find the assumption that situational racism is a crucial component to making such decisions, and that the danger is to people deemed white, endlessly revealing.

       @JuliusGoat Also, in this specific example, apparently *someone* has built a voice-activated system that only reacts to racial slurs. Might wanna introspect as to who that could've been and why.
