@condret @PraxisOfEvil "WTF", why? The UN seems so far genuinely useless as far as I've seen currently and it's a bunch of countries playing pretend bureaucracy over there. Nothing is ever done, nothing is ever stopped. Saudi Arabia was elected to UN women's rights commission, Anita Sarkeesian went there to go cry. The WHO completely failed the pandemic response and the UN is still bothering Japan about "violence in manga against Women" when Japan basically told them to go fuck themselvesIs there genuinely anything at all going on over there? I've been asking this for years and nobody fucking seems to knows. It all just seems like a massively expensive circus

@coolboymew @PraxisOfEvil @condret It’s a framework more than anything but they do research and gather data, and they do have some money.A lot of their stuff is more important for small/poor countries. It’s not at a scale that looks impressive to Americans but a couple million goes a long way in some of these countries.

@coolboymew my position here is the longer we keep talking to each other, the longer we avoid abother world war. yes they just talk, and barely get anything done (though i think the WHO response to covid-19 wasn't as bad as you've described it), but i think just talking on it's own is worth keeping it. maybe i'm delusional here, but i believe the world would be worse if the UN didn't exist.I think there are good reasons to dissolve, but only if we manage to come up with something better.Based, that japan told them to fuck off.Now why i wrote "wtf". My problem here is not that we're talking about dissolving the UN, but that people say that they want it, because it would be entertaining for them. This trivialization of politics as just a show or entertainment is neoliberal ideology of hubris mocking serenity (sorry, i don't find better words to describe what i mean). It's the same mindset as "let's get trump into office, because it would be funny as shit". That is the actual decay of the west.
