Yesterday, I installed one of those Omada devices in the hallway, replacing the 'old' Mikrotik. My wife, seeing a much larger gadget, looked at it skeptically, though she didn't criticize (fortunately, she never does because she knows anything I install at home is necessary for experimenting with devices I'll also use in the office and with clients). I was unsure about the blue LED - whether to keep it on or turn it off as I usually do - and I forgot to turn it off. Last night, there was a brief power outage, but the access points (like other network devices) are on an uninterruptible power supply. She found herself in complete darkness in the room, while the faint, yet visible, blue light of the access point in the hallway allowed her to get out and reach me in the studio. Suddenly, she's become a fan of these devices and asked me to add more around the house 😄 #HomeNetworking #TechLife #Omada #UnexpectedBenefits #TP-Link

@stefano Are they that bright? The blue ring of my Unifi AP only lights up very weakly. You would need a lot of them to see anything.

@stefano Only remotely related, did you get the #Omada controller software to run on #FreeBSD? It's slightly annoying I need a #Linux vm currently to run some beast implemented in #Java 🙄

@schumbi It doesn't seem so, during the day. But in the total darkness, they're bright enough to let you move in a small room like a corridor. They're brighter than the Unifi AP's leds (at least, the AC Pro and Lite I've used for years).

@zirias I'm fighting with it right now. At first, I tried to install it into an Ubuntu VM but had some problems. Now I'm using it inside an Alpine Linux 3.19 Bhyve VM (in Docker), but I'm trying to understand how to run it into a FreeBSD jail (or, at least, an Ubuntu jail managed by #BastilleBSD). I don't like wasting ram and resources for a full VM just for this.

@stefano Ok, so you're exactly where I finally gave up, my instance is running in a #Devuan vm (no docker involved) after I failed to both run it inside #FreeBSD and #Linuxulator jails 😞

@fluxwatcher Sure. She's special. That's why I married her, almost 10 years ago. She respects me, my job, my passions and never complains about them. In fact, she encourages and motivates me to experiment. When I have doubts about some purchases, she always pushes me to try. "You can always sell it later, but at least you'll have resolved your doubts." Of course, I do the same with her, so we get along well and respect each other. Over the weekend, I'll take her to a new clothing outlet, even though she doesn't know it yet :-)
