So there were some decent announcements but I think it's become really clear that this generation in particular has been hobbled from the start. You'll notice that a majority of actual "next gen" games aren't hitting until the end of 24 or mid 25. We wasted basically half a decade of dev time to studios having to retool games to either run on last gen stuff or just scrap it entirely because install bases were nonexistent for the first 2 to 3 years. I wouldn't doubt people doing gaming retrospectives in 20 years time will look back on this period as a massive drought of games punctuated by one or two gems.

@Jim I don't understand people complaining that there aren't enough good games coming out. Every time I open steam, I find something really nice hidden somewhere , be it a new or old game.

The sad part about 2025 releases is that we’ll be 5 years into the console generation, and given how fast PC hardware was pushed further than consoles again (although price-wise maybe not), are they just going to have to retool everything again after one release?

@GrungeQueef @Jim ESG is just the latest strain of cancer to reinforce all the other bullshit that already existed, we need rid of the industry that exists & all the people employed there who look for that shit to survive. Anything new from the parallel economy won't be dabbling in that, & if they do we're going to see it from orbit with instant punishment. Companies especially like EA need to die so the new upstarts by real gamers can raid the mass graveyard of franchises they're hoarding to restart the middle market as well as AAA.

@Jim A lot of the recent stuff was hobbled by last gen design. Starfield felt 10 years old in every design choice, BG3 was great but didn't innovate, it's just Original Sin 2 but D&D flavoured. The Indie scene just seems to be rough copies of various BYOND games in 3d. Star Citizen tried a couple new things, but at this point I only believe the parts of that game I can play right now. At this point I'm pretty sure we'll just skip this gen and move on to the next one with some big new game.

@Twoinchdestroya @Jim I don't know how wide spread it is, but I do see it pop up constantly. I suspect that shifting baselines plays a part. To kids around 15, most of the stuff that seems off to everyone else is normal to them. They're probably also tired of hearing people insist everything sucks, so they take the opposite end and defend everything as "good".
