Made a new #Blog post on why I'm not the biggest fan of the #Steam Client. I might be a tad passionate about this lmao, but god damn it felt good to vent about it =Phttps://www.iotib.net/blog.php?id=12

@charadon I *believe* most games actually decompress on the fly while downloading now. It makes sense from Valve’s perspective, it saves them tonnes of bandwidthYour point about network utilisation can be solved by setting bandwidth limits I guessI’m at least happy that Steam and Valve as a whole seem rather consumer oriented, contrary to the other players in this scene :blobcatsad:

@NanoSector@nanosector.nl I will say that it has gotten a little better since the steam deck came out (I'd guess that's when they would've made a lot of these changes). I turned back on background Fossilize for the first time in a year, and now it was only using 4 threads instead of all 12.Which to me is still too much and really needs an option to set how many cores it can use. I wouldn't mind giving up 1 core for it, but a gobbling up a quarter of my CPU power is a bit much, ya know?Honestly, I wish they would release some kind of a Steam-lite. Just enough launcher to launch your games and that's it.

@charadon Yeah I get you, the Steam client can feel incredibly clunky. Especially the whole “fancy animated interface” thing on desktop can get fairly slow.I usually disable the library animations and put it in power saving mode etc, makes the library a lot faster to use even on faster hardware.

@NanoSector@nanosector.nl Oh yeah, low performance and low bandwidth modes are the fist things I turn on when I launch a new install of steam lol
