I'm thinking about my social media presence in 2024. It's clear to me it's time to leave the bird site BUT that's been a very good source of info as of late though there's a lot of garbage there as well.The sky site is somewhat appealing mostly because there are some folks who I followed on the other site who moved there BUT that site also isn't truly open & while it's sexy in UI, it is potentially just a reset of the bird site. Also, posting tools like Buffer don't work with that site. 1/2

This platform, Mastodon, is what feels newer and more promising but also kind of messy and missing lots of 1st-hand news sourcing. Mastodon also feels edgy like the internet of yore where random folks showed up with curiosity (not always kindness) instead of anger/whataboutism/or rage (as has become the standard on the bird site). {2 of what became 3...sigh}

Another nice aspect of Mastodon is that the instance administrators, IMHO, do this as a labor of love/care/community which is something that doesn't happen in a commercial context.All that to suggest we, myself included, should suggest Mastodon in gentler ways because folks want better online spaces. We can nurture a better social internet. 3/3
