@Nazareno I think it would’ve been a very different war if the US had put boots on the ground. I mean. The Russians are basically up against a poorly equipped Ukrainian JV team and they haven’t sacked the country. It’s either incredible restraint, or incompetence. If restraint, that’s a whole lot of bodies to sacrifice for the sake of being nice. I honestly don’t think the Russians are a terribly motivated or well trained fighting force. And they have home field advantage. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@CoramDeo That's the debate. US Boots on the Ground? As a draftee in the Vietnam War and an ardent observer of the Afghanistan war...I dont think so...but that's just me

@Nazareno I’m definitely not for boots on the ground. Especially not now. But if we had put boots on the ground from the get go, i don’t think Russia would be in UKR tight now. And conscription is a huge issue for Russia. Thank you for your Vietnam service, I’m sorry you had to go.

@CoramDeo I was a draftee. There have been no draftees since. That's reason enough to thank me - but not the standard reason. George Bush started 'thank you for your service' to shut down the debate of whether the US should invade Iraq. I'm a beneficiary of that gaffe. TPTB have been paying for that ever since. Every time I go to the VA I say it to the staff before they can say it to me. It screws up the narrative. Roughly half of them think it's funny. Dont get me wrong. I'm still pissed

@Nazareno I say it with sincerity because if I was faced with a draft notice for one of these war adventures that have no point but ti enrich and empower further those who are in power, I would tell them to take a hike.

@CoramDeo Thanks. It was a difficult decision and a difficult time. I was going to leave the US. For me, it was a moral dilemma and still is. My dad who was in the German occupation convinced me that the army was a very dumb organization and I would find a way out. He was right on both counts. I never left the country but that required a lot of scrambling and ultimate the intervention of a higher power - my opinion. I gave it a lot to work with but ultimately, it wasnt me. I never left the US

@Nazareno It was also a different time information-wise. Hell, even today we are much more informed about how dirty the US government is, how corporate interests trump the safety, security, and prosperity of the individual citizen. The US cause, of late, is not noble. It’s nothing more than adventurism and colonialism. We don’t have our own house in order, and certainly we do not have any business fighting proxy wars that serve a few corrupt interests to the detriment of the many.

@CoramDeo The diff between the info then and now is night and day. We are in the apocalypse - the unveiling. I was always a history buff. I was 14 when they did JFK. I knew that was weird but...I was in my hormones. 8 months later I knew the LBJ Gulf of Tonken was total BS. I started studying US history from the Vietnamese/French point of view and everything became perfectly clear but I was not the norm. I had to study it with card catalogues/magazine racks. Today, it's ALL HERE with a click

@Nazareno In 1970 I was in 8th grade in 1070. I started to refuse to stand and recite the pledge.I considered it to be a fascist activity because I saw America in the 60's. I understood the protests. But they turned it around. They used it. Americans became aware it was avg Americans who showers the hate on returning Vets. So they used to to make the avg American into a war monger, one step at a time. Don't hate the troops to support the troops to support the war.
