@dave When I first got back into open source I was working on android apps for p2p video playback, first with bitchute and then PeerTube when bitchute abandoned p2p.The android app store did not approve apps that used embedded video playback at all.When PeerTube servers moved to HLS years ago the p2p via regular torrent stopped working, and there was no android webtorrent support. I had been contributing to Thorium up till then, but they opted to just playback the video with exoplayer and drop supporting P2P. I forked it to PeerTubeTV because using webview was kludgey, but it ran the javascript P2P player. Got it working pretty good until the play store refused to approve it for playing embedded video. Against their rules for the possibility to steal content via embedding.Never managed to argue it successfully at the time so gave up and switched to other aspects of advancing PeerTube.TLDR: The app store saw this possibility years ago, it would have to be a PWA.

@dave @errheadIt's not as if fdroid doesn't exist. We should stop making software choices based on gatekeeper decisions.Especially because PWAs are and always will be hammered by browser vendors.That said, YouTube HLS and DASH streams can be put into RSS feeds and played like any other video.

@dave @adam @agates @errhead hey @IzzyOnDroid do you know if F-Droid has a policy against allowing HTML embeds of videos from loading in F-Droid apps?Apparently Google Play doesn't allow them, and if they don't, I would presume Apple doesn't either. I know F-Droid still has its own guidelines so I thought I'd ask.The idea being proposed is to allow podcasters to include an HTML embed URL (like to their YouTube video) in their RSS feed, so podcast apps could load YouTube embeds.

The IPFS gateways are currently @adam's podcastgateway.com and @suorcd's gateway.ipfs.ser.yachts. @alberto (RSS.com) has a big storage node, but not a gateway. I still need to implement "gateway management" (routing/payment/preference) via IPFS podcasting.Gateway setup is explained here. https://github.com/Cameron-IPFSPodcasting/podcast-Gateway A url regex that matches 99.7% of the IPFS podcasting urls.@voidzero did more configuration to round-robin his 5 gateways into one domain and improve fetching over ipfs://cc @dave

@mitchLike I said above, the youtube HLS URLs can probably one put into feeds directly.Or we could just put in the YT HTTP URL and use libraries like this https://github.com/LuanRT/YouTube.jsThere's a lot of prior work here, that's how yt-dlp and NewPipe work etc@adam @dave @errhead

@errhead @adam @dave @agates oops sorry I missed that earlier.As long as YouTube makes this content accessible to other apps I’m open to adding support. I wouldn’t want to base a whole app around YT since I imagine they could pull the rug out on us, but we have to tell ppl “sorry that’s only on YT” a lot so if we can add them too sure why not.
