You know the buttons at the top of windows to close, minimize etc? On macOS they are at the top left. On Linux Mint they are top right. I have been jumping btw those OS. Finally, I changed settings now in Linux Mint LMDE Cinnamon and moved them to the left like on mac. Very easy to change in settings. Now I wonder how long it will take until I remember I have them up in the left corner. #lmde #linux #cinnamon #configuration #WalkingToLinux

@hehemrin why not get crazy and put them in the scroll bar? On the left side!

@hehemrin I've had my buttons on the left since forever, even though I've never used a mac. I just like them better there. 😄 Maybe that's because The menus are over on the left, so it's irritating to have to move your mouse pointer clear across the screen to minimize or close the window. Once we went to wide monitors it made even more sense.

@hehemrin This is definitely me with KDE's (until February) default "Single click acts like a double click" setting, got used to it and changed it back to what every other desktop uses it.... annnnd would single-click to open something, and wonder why nothing was happening...

@adventure_tense You mean where to change this setting? Go to System settings, select Windows settings and tthen at the top you have button settings. See snapshot. Sorry, my settings are in Swedish, so I am not certain of the English Mint words.

@leadore I have also thought the same way, that it makes more sense to have the buttons at the same end as the drop down menus.

@hehemrin I also put the panel at the top of the screen. It makes sense to me--we read left to right, top to bottom after all.BTW I use the standard Mint edition. How do you like LMDE? Does it work just as well (assuming you've tried both)? I was thinking of trying it on my laptop.

@leadore :-) Yes, I also have moved the panel to the top. From Windows, I'm used to bottom but from mac at the top, so I decided to go for top. I am switching, or I hope have switched, to Linux as primary drive now finally a few days ago (still access and use the other OS). So far, I like LMDE, in fact, with Cinnamon on Linux Mint I cannot really notice any difference. I have had both Mint Cinnamon and LMDE installed for a while on another machine (and Mint Xfce on a cheap low spec). 1/2

@leadore I had decided to go for Mint Cinnamon on this primary machine. But I like Debian and their philosophy, and wondering what Ubuntu will do with deb vs Snap packages, so I thought I wanted to give LMDE a try. As I recall, Ubuntu is based on Debian (forgot the name) while LMDE is based on Debian Stable. I assume I may have somewhat older sw versions of deb from Debian compared to Ubuntu, esp later when Debian gets older, but I'll see and if it becomes any problem. 2/2

@hehemrin Yes Ubuntu is based on Debian unstable. That reminds me, the main reason I haven't tried LMDE so far is that I have several applications that I install via PPA, which I wouldn't be able to do (or would be risky/not work right) on Debian. I hope you'll enjoy using Linux Mint as your main OS now. :)

@leadore Thanks, and I see. I don't have that problem with PPA. Beside deb, I have a few AppImages and FlatPaks. I suspect I may need more FlatPaks, but often fine with not the latest sw version for me. I also have a few Windows-applications via Wine/CrossOver. I'll see when I have installed everything and started to use, if LMDE works well. But so far I am saftisfied.

@hehemrin Excellent. Not sure why I didn’t see this before. 🙏
