What you're saying when you say "Idiocracy was a documentary":"I am a casual eugenicist"

@SallyStrange for sure. Likewise for the people who are desperately trying to reproduce as much as possible. They seem to fall heavily to one side of the political spectrum. They're trying to outbreed their political opponents, and indoctrinate their children into their ideology.Minus the indoctrination, this is kinda what led to the extinction of the Neanderthals, I've seen posited(not going to cite sources, but they're easy to find). We kinda just outbred them.

@fcktheworld587 Yeah. The thing is, neither intelligence nor ideology work that way. But pretending it does is a great excuse for exercising power over other people's private lives. To say homo sapiens "outbred" neanderthals misses my point, I think. That's one way of looking at it. Another, less eugenicist-sounding way of looking at it is that neanderthals were more specialized than homo sapiens and when climactic conditions changed, they were unable to find the resources they needed to continue reproducing at replacement or better. And homo sapiens interbred with them quite a bit.

@thenoid @SallyStrange I wouldn't say it's a concern, but moreso that it could possibly reveal desire and intent, along the lines of eugenics

@fcktheworld587 @thenoid@akko.disqordia.space Right. Like I said, ideology doesn't work that way. People grow up and have their own thoughts. But conservatives believe it works that way, or pretend to, and this provides them an excuse for policing how people partner up and reproduce.

@rticks until specifics to mechanisms involved are well understood, I'm highly suspect of any research claiming genetic basis for intelligence. There are a lot of confounding environmental factors which are too difficult to account for, in research, to look at social data, and draw genetic inferences from
