If it takes you more than zero seconds to painstakingly back into a normal parking lot space that everyone else would have pulled into, and you don't look like an emergency first responder, understand that everyone watching your unneeded fiddling thinks you're an idiot.

@tek Depending on where I'm parking, I have to do exactly that.My tiny car has zero visibility when backing out, especially between giant SUVs. Unless I can find a pull-through spot or a spot that's not surrounded, I must back in so I can pull out safely. When I bought my '08 focus, it wasn't tiny. But with today's trucks and SUV's, it's minuscule.

@mwl File that under the “what would a normal person do” clause. The Camry that blocked traffic to wheedle in between two Civics was a bonehead.

@tek I typically back in and I've been doing it so long that I'm usually pretty quick at it, but if there are exigent circumstances (ie unfamiliar car and busy parking lot) I'll just pull in the front. Or at home if there's someone behind me, I'll pull over and let them pass then back in.

@nateb This is the way. And if there’s no car in front of the spot and you pull through, of course that’s a gimme.

@tek Eh. I back in when I want. My reasons are my own and almost always specific to the moment.

@smallerdemon That’s fine, but please don’t block traffic in a busy lot while you do it. I was stuck behind someone who just couldn’t fit their small car into the giant space.

@tek @nateb Nah, I pull through the spot while backing into it so I am parking like a normal person :smugcat:

@tek I don't care what everyone else thinks. However pulling out of that spot front forward will be a breeze.

@tek @smallerdemon In alternate universe, a different Tek is angry-posting about a car who's blocking traffic trying to painstakingly reverse out of a parking spot when they should have reversed into it in the first place if they have trouble reversing out.

@tek @smallerdemon Like, am I wrong that it's zero-sum game? If you're just not fast at reversing, you're gonna spend the same time reversing to park as reversing out of parking spot.

@anymouse_404 @smallerdemon I don’t think so. Backing out is a straight line if you pulled in straight. It’s my hypothesis that the total effort required is less for pulling in.
