https://ioc.exchange/@AlgorithmWolf/111511755216206441This previous post of mine has had 10 boosts. This means that there are at least a few other people that have experienced significant harassment from other furries. This is curious, because I just read:https://furry.engineer/@keirFox/111517314390298711claiming that furries are "the most genuine, most empathetic collection of people you will find in a world where being genuine, lifting others up, and having empathy are seen as weakness."And I know I am not alone in being harassed and permanently banned from groups by powertripping admins. Now I can only wonder... How is it possible people can have such dramatically different experiences on here? One theory I have been observing and developing over the years is that it depends a lot on your personality. If you have a "people-pleasing" and agreeable personality, you will have an easy time. But if you are somehow different or express opinions that are different to the group, you will be scolded for it.

@AlgorithmWolf"But if you are somehow different or express opinions that are different to the group, you will be scolded for it."I get this with the open-source community, which I think needs to learn this lesson too lol (see: https://furry.engineer/@Flaky/111517558002623593)

This is just a theory that I have, it doesn't necessarily have to be true, but I find it really difficult to explain this otherwise.Of course, being a people-pleaser is also good outside of the furry fandom. Those who are agreeable will be rewarded with friendships, promotions at work, and will find it easy to live in general. Those who aren't agreeable will be shunned. This is not exclusive to the furry fandom, but how come some people swear the furry fandom is totally different and inclusive?

@Flaky but to be clear I am not saying furries are horrible or anything like that.Of course there are good furries, and bad furries.Just like in real life: There's good people and bad people. So what I don't understand is why some people make a huge deal out of the furry fandom being somehow better socially or whatever.

@AlgorithmWolf Yeah, just goes back to what I'm saying in general. Positively or negatively, the furry fandom is just that big (much like society in general) that people are going to have wildly different experiences. The person you linked probably had a much better experience than us and that's mirrored quite a lot with others. I do get the vibe that some of them want to present the furry fandom as homogeneous, even unintentionally, when it's very much impossible to do so, because of said wildly different experiences.

@Flaky ah!!!! Yes, that's what I was trying to say. I didn't even know how to express it.Yes, that's exactly what irks me! Some furries try to present their personal experience as a universally shared one by all furries. This is absurd for many reasons, but becomes plainly obvious when you put it into words. And I think the problem with this line of thought is some people may be tempted to simply shove away any criticism, genuine or not, just because these negative experiences aren't shared by them.

@PurpCat @Flaky I was in MFF22. To be honest, I felt very safe, but that's only because of the way I am. I have a strict zero-tolerance policy for drugs, alcohol, and more.It is very easy to lose control in one of these big furry cons, and everyone is going to be too busy to get involved or take care of you. Fortunately I got a room for myself, so I felt safe.

@AlgorithmWolf @Flaky the person I roomed with at FWA 2018 would try to murder a roommate a few years later, there's a really damn good reason I avoid the mainstream fandom.

@PurpCat @Flaky @DocScranton This year's MFF there was some dude spamming BLE pairing beacons with the Flipper Zero. And as usual, fire brigade and police presence almost 24/7 in front of the hotel.Last year they busted a room party because there were like 20 people squeezed into a room of 2, and they were doing a LOT of weed. But yeah that's just kinda normal stuff for furry cons.
