So not only are kids being denied the chance to form a connection with someone who is at least tangentially in their lives and experiencing their day-to-day, but we're giving these even more data about these kids?apnews.com/article/mental-health-counseling-school-hazel-bd7d650184decd94d4570e9841f1cedb

@mttaggart That just amplifies a dysfunction. Instead of tackling the root of the problem, they're creating another one that feeds off children's data. When did people stop using common sense?

@AAKL Common sense would require sufficient funding, which a system based on property taxes will never be able to afford.Schools have been making Faustian bargains with private companies forever. Think about vending machines with sugary sodas in cafeterias. Desperation results in compromised principles.

@mttaggart That is true and scary. And the failure has future ramifications for the bullying generation that's getting away with this behavior without being corrected. Sure, help the victims; leave the problem unattended. 🤔 Bullies are cowards that prey on those who are perceived to be weak.

@AAKL One thing I learned in my time in alt. ed is that there are no "bad kids," only angry and hurt kids.I think you'll find that bullies need help too, and are victims in their own right. Punishment is not the solution; every student deserves care and support.

@mttaggart absolutely. I didn't mean punishment. Facing a bully (and projecting strength) with his/her own shortcomings often is enough to stop the bad behavior.
