       What is this effect called? the screen goes dark depending on what I'm looking at I hate it! it makes me sick and its in every modern game its so bad and I have no idea what to call it or how to turn it off all these visual effects make games harder and less fun to play. its not even realistic its just nauseating im not super picky about this shit when every game was drowning everything out in bloom and lens flairs I didn't care but this shit is too much the worst part is I seem to be the only person that notices this shit I feel like I'm going nuts

       @Fiddle it does it outside as well its seems to be based on the brightness of what you are looking at but its definitely most noticeable when going in and outside

       @BigTony It's called auto exposure or eye adaptation and it's on by default in Unreal projects. Probably depends on the game whether they allow you to turn it off in options.

       Yeah this is a trend that's been going on since battlefield 4 I think, which introduced flashing someone with a flashlight to blind them as a mechanic. They are trying to simulate how your eyes act IRL by adjusting to sudden shifts in light. Really though it's just kind of annoying.
