I therefore need a teacher who can simply tell me what to believe. But there are going to be good and bad teachers, and so I need an authority to turn to to tell me which teachers are good and bad. Also theology and traditions need to be codified, less they die out and mutate in a few generations and the religion splinters into many similar but fundamentally incompatible religions all going by the same name. These are simply inexorable axioms that cannot be changed. Maybe with years of propagandist reprogramming they could be overwritten, but probably not.

Any attempt and cross-cultural conversion must understand that people aren't individuals and their home culture always sticks with them. This doesn't apply to someone raised without faith, as they will be much closer to an individual who can chose what to believe. However they will still have cultural tendencies gathered through osmosis, filling that hole. Even if they were simply an "I don't really know" atheist then they will still be most comfortable in whatever was the cultural default of their home. Which is likely to be militant atheistic, though tolerant. That is what they'll be taught in school and what all the TV people will be and so on and so on. People have a default state that is environmentally informed.

If your neighbor had been catholic and taken you to catholic church I bet you would have ended up the most anti-prot trad-larper e-cath around; as a form of self defense you had to develop to separate you from the majority surrounding you. Growing up I didn't really know anything about any other branch of Christianity, and it let me be tolerant and laid back about the whole thing.

The way I see it there's a fourth Abrahamic faith currently, but it's history is so complicated and so closely intertwined with what was once the only thing known as Christianity that nobody knows it yet. One day we'll all realize what is happening and somebody will man up and change their religions name and then things will settle down and we'll just have normal inter-relegious conflict.

My belief still remains but without my actions matching up it becomes meaningless. And so that means that there are more and less holy actions necessarily, which in turn means that you could minmax for holiness, but I don't know how and learning would require decades of study, and so I'm drawn in towards the authority and traditions. I'm essentially betting on whatever denomination I go with having done the work to figure out the best teachings (and gotten it right). It's a bit like trying to approach science, the scientific apparatus is in a total state nowadays, but still there are plenty of worthwhile studies and papers to use. And there are scientists who can tell you which is which.I feel like we've been going back and fourth talking past each other for a long while now due to that communication barrier that I mentioned, so we should probably stop before I repeat myself again.

Sadly there aren't a lot of Protestant demonization that don't ordain women, fags, and/or trannies. It's why so many United/Body of/whatever have seen massive rifts recently where tons of the churches that used to be under that umbrella decided to split off and become independent.
