If you want your USB flash drives to last 10 years,Rub them with various tribo-electric materials, nylon, latex, vinyl etc.Flash memory works by essentially placing some electrons on an insulated island of material through quantum tunneling and then "trapping" them there. However, there is some probability that they can tunnel off, and the stored charge does leak out over time... but this can be mitigated by occasionally rubbing your flash memory on your cat.

@boatingaccident @lockntross lol. I mean. If the grid is down long enough. You're probably not gonna be worried about what's stored on your USB drives.. you'll be more worried about surviving and living in the new stone age.
