@furgar 🤣 Solar panels during night... Good luck. Is he running in the Moron Olympics? 😂 Globalism has made politicians stupid everywhere.

@inscius @furgar even giving him the benefit of the doubt that he means the panels will power up through the day then put that power into your car over night... He's missed the bit where you have to pay for the solar panels, battery and installing the power point for your car. I'm sure the numbers have been done, but not publicised, about how long it takes to recoup that

@baronessloveandlight @inscius @furgar panels are about 50c per W including hardware but excluding install and ignoring credits.say we need 10kWh per day to keep car towed up.say equivalent of 5 solar hours a day at 1000 W/m².so we need 2 kW of panels or $1000.say electricity is 33 c/kWh.$1000 / 0.33 is 3000 kWh.so break even for panels is about 300 days.2 kW is about 5 panels and takes about 6x1.8 m roof space - about 11 m²10 kWh batteries is about $3200.another 3 years.

@baronessloveandlight @inscius @furgar seems wasteful to charge batteries during day to charge car at night...but it can be done.i'd like to see cars covered with solar cells so they charge whenever sun shines.

@23electron @inscius @furgar there's a solar car race in Australia every year, probably for the last 20 years. Tiny little canoe sized cars, in the Australian outback full sun. They haven't cracked it yet

@baronessloveandlight @23electron @furgar So an electric car with 100% solar energy (not counting the construction of it) needs two sets of batteries? One in car, one in home? Unless one drives during night, or at least car is home charging during day.

@baronessloveandlight @inscius @furgar if i could but a cheap, small, lithium iron phosphate battery powered ev for around town i'd consider it.but so much better with a small engine or generator.

@23electron @baronessloveandlight @furgar These guys build diesel-electric trucks. A bit like trains. https://www.edisonmotors.ca/ Heard of them first on Voice Of GO(r)D podcast, which I very much like. I do not know much about trucking, but find the podcast fascinating.
