Tomorrow is the day I bury my Hero. Dad passed away last week on the ranch. He was a unique man, built by a world most people only read about in books. His first job on the ranch was straightening nails and fence staples on an anvil. What do you do when a 3 year old starts copying you, and banging on an anvil? My Great-Grandad, got a milk cart out for the kid to stand on, and more nails.

What a lesson to learn at a young age. Strike, assess for success, if there is none, you adjust your aim and strike again, until you succeed, then pick up a new nail. Dad soaked it in. When his Grandad went into a local cafe and the man spoke to him in German, Pa would reply in english. Dad watched it all time after time. Finally on one trip the man asked Pa why he didn't answer in German. "Because no one else here speaks German, and I don't want them thinking we are talking about them.'

Decades later, Dad and I stopped in town headed home, the local retired Barber stopped us. "Say it's a beautiful day, I bet we could go call some coyotes in, what do you say" Dad laughed and said "love to barber, but we got to go back and doctor a cow." Barber said jokingly "There was work to be done before you were here, and there'll be work to be done when yer gone." Dad laughed again "Yup, your probably right, Barber, But my part of the work will be done." I soaked it in.

@DameGMoney thank you, sorry for your loss. I had more time than most with him. 5 years for the university and then working in the town for a year, is all the time I spent away from him. Other than that, we were side by side.
