       Very worthwhile examination by @anderspuck of what the word "Genocide" actually means and how it may or may not apply in the #IsraelGazaWar or #russiaUkraineWar or in other cases. Especially in the age of hashtags it is always a good idea to check our language so that we can create rhetoric that is both compelling and factual. After watching this I'll be more circumspect about the language I use to describe Israel's crimes against Palestinians including #apartheid, potential ethnic cleansing, crimes against humanity, and other war crimes, but perhaps not, specifically, genocide unless more information and proof of intent becomes clear.https://www.youtube.com/watch?si=gi5kSB0VYGaTXnO_&v=L9n77DPJ7AE&feature=youtu.be

       @chris @anderspuck It is good to be intellectually rigorous in one's language in the fediverse: Anders Puck is first rate on Ukraine, for sure.   At the same time, one can be too cautious: there is a solid consensus that the occupied territories are governed by an Apartheid system.  Just check with B'tsalem, Israel's leading human rights organization, Amnesty International, or Human Rights Watch. They concur that Israel uses Apartheid in it's governance of occupied Palestinians.   #Palestine

       @Barrikoi1 @chris @anderspuck "It is good to be intellectually rigorous in one's language"  - Yes, but at the same time "if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it's most likely a duck". IMHO Anders Puck makes the mistake of putting too much weight on the intellectual & literal meaning of, for example, the word #genocide and not enough on the actual observations of what's happening.

       @anderspuckWhy not?Palestinians were a captive population before October 7.  Since, they've been denied access to food, clean water, fuel. Israel has indiscriminately bombed civilians in Gaza(50+% children), demolishing shelter, killing thousands, wounding more & putting every hospital out of commission.
