Okay, I looked a little bit more into the ao3 drama, and I think I want to say something about it (wasn't gonna, but eh).1. There is nothing wrong with "from the river to the sea" whether antisemites try to appropriate it or no, since it was not made for that, and it's possible to call out antisemitic usage of it when you see it. Every phrase you try to make into a catchy statement is going to attract shitty people, it's your responsibility to remove the people and not the phrase.2. There are, however, a lot of antisemites in this conversation, and many people don't do a good job removing them. The idea that Jewish citizens of Israel are white Europeans who can "go back" to their "home countries" any time IS antisemitic, claiming that Israel controls western countries or media IS antisemitic, shutting down Jewish people's concerns about how they are treated in the west IS antisemitic. If you ignore these things, you do not meet the condition number one - removing antisemites from your political side. The only solution, if you want to put effort, is work and attention, learning more about Jewish history and antisemitism, and CONSTANTLY correcting both real bigots and well-meaning allies who made mistakes. If you don't do it, things will continue escalating, and soon all of your slogans and rallies and organizations will be used by nazis. 3. I have very little trust in ao3 having people-oriented ethics, because if they were more interested in minimizing suffering than in running their site as smoothly as possible, they would not allow nonconsensual graphic real person fiction, especially one involving teenagers and children. It will be, however, interesting to watch whether ao3 will change at all when confronted with opposition from their target audience for the first time.4. I have no interest in defending either ao3 or the ex volunteer at all, everyone connected to that site is out of my area of concern.

@comrade_lecter It’s not the first time. There has been discourse about the OTW having problematic internal policy for a while, some proship-oriented people have been watching the situations for even longer. An example of a recent controversy is a situation where CSEM was sent to volunteers by a malicious attacker and the OTW allegedly mishandled it.

@aronarchy I'm unaware, since I had "AO3" blacklisted on Tumblr for a very long time.

@comrade_lecter I actually didn’t find out on Tumblr, but from an entirely different set of random unrelated googles.
