People who would rather spend hundreds of dollars on property software without even trying the free open source alternatives absolutely baffle me. Especially when they're just getting into a hobby and are unlikely to exceed the limitations of the free alternative. Whatever, waste your money if you must, fool.

@chanon I agree in principle, but when it comes to cad and image processing, no open source software comes even close to Autodesk's and Adobe's products, so if that's what you need... ;)

@ThatCrazyDudeAnd if we keep parroting that line, there never will be. The alternatives are more than powerful enough for hobbyists and beginners.

@chanon in a way. I mean, sure, there's GIMP and FreeCAD, and you can do almost everything you need to do with those two. But only if you have nothing better to do and you're fine with looking for "workarounds" like every 5 minutes on average. I mean, let's be realistic here. People have lives to live and the software is supposed to work for you, not the other way around

@ThatCrazyDude"It works differently from the thing that costs hundreds of dollars" isn't a convincing argument to me for learning the one that costs hundreds of dollars, lol. These open source projects (also see Blender, Krita, Inkscape) are getting better and better, but without some degree of adoption, they don't stand a chance. I'm not saying the proprietary stuff shouldn't exist. I'm just saying I want people to consider alternatives so that Adobe and Autodesk aren't free of competition.

@chanon you're not wrong at all. But you gotta give Autodesk some credit here. I mean, it's obvious all proprietary stuff, but fusion 360 is free for private use, so there's that. The only issue I have with it is that they don't have version for Linux.

@ThatCrazyDudeTheir products are very good, so I definitely credit them for that. I'm just a freetard that wants the best for open source projects, and I get a little noisy sometimes.
