       As a doula and childbirth educator I work with women having babies. I teach mothers and fathers what to expect during pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum… And now the agency that I am certified through has decided that they need to use ‘gender neutral’ language on everything and strongly recommend that we doulas do the same so that everyone feels welcome… Only women can get pregnant and birth a baby… I don’t care how you identify yourself- you cannot change biology 🧬

       @Kooshlie we took the Evidence Based Birth classes as they were recommended by our midwife. It was full of birthing people and chest feeding. It was really hard to take it seriously and we wouldn't of spent the money knowing it was full of that nonsense.

       @Cancerousprime Oh, I know! I canceled my pro membership there also. All of the continuing edu they offered (required for my certification) was full of DEI anti-racism stuff… minimal information that actually applies to what I am doing.

       @Kooshlie @Cancerousprime We had a guy running for school board a couple of years ago who had "evidence-based" something-or-other in his write-up and I knew right then I was NOT voting for him. His other positions aligned with leftist ideologies, which further solidified my thoughts about what that particular phrase was supposed to signal.Happily, he was not elected.

       @KooshlieI took DONA's postpartum doula workshop winter 2020 and chest feeding devices were reviewed in the context of mothers unable to breastfeed using them to imitate the experience and get skin-to-skin contact/bonding time. 'Gender neutral' language was not included at the time. Crazy how fast things change.Never completed the DONA certification because I didn't want to pay the membership fees and commit to the continuing education.

       @Laurien Yeah, I will be canceling my membership and rescinding my certification and pursuing another option. I am SO over it all. In 2019, I supported a client who chose to refer to her baby as a 'Theybe.' However, in context she herself is autistic and considered herself non-binary at the time. I was able to come along side and support her, and even developed a way to help staff support her. And she NEVER got offended when we referred to her baby's gender.

       @Laurien In my area some of the hospitals require certification before you can openly work as a doula. I can probably get away with it due to my experience and reputation here. As far as a reputable group to train through and certify with- it is really up to you personally. I am looking at a more faith based group for myself. They feel a little more religiously legalistic, but the content that they cover and teach is solid.https://www.theelitedoulaandco.com/
