       I don't have an ESP/NodeMCU programmer board? How does my workshop not have this? Oh well. Let's create something I can drive from the USB-TTL adapter then.

       Oh nice - my USB-TTL adapter hasn't got DTR and RTS exposed - which is needed for the NodeMCU automatic programming. The signals aren't even on the internal PCB. But I mean, it's a CP2102 so I'll just have wire that directly to the IC then ...

       Dear world,Today I've remade my USB-TTL serial adapter so I could build a NodeMCU programming circuit.When I was almost done, I looked a bit more closely at the actual boards I intend to program.They have on board USB-micro connectors and can be programmed directly through a regular USB-cable from inside the Arduino IDE.I am very smart hacker.
