#WaitThatsACover? Day 21 - "I Think We're Alone Now" You know, today WAS gonna be the last one. Until I found another one >_< So tomorrow's the last one! Promise! This is actually the first cover that I had no idea about. Lol thx mom ✌️So Tiffany was not the first one to do “I Think We’re Alone Now” (1987). Tiffany: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6Q3mHyzn78 The only reason I know this song is, again, the radio at work. I would never listen to this on my own time. I get why it was a hit though; it's very catchy. This wasn't her only cover either, since apparently she also covered the Beatles' "I Saw Her Standing there"—gender-bending it into "I Saw Him Standing There." It's...fine. Once AGAIN, the "He was just seventeen, and you know what I mean" is not any better than the original >m<" Man she really tries to mimic Paul's growl. It's a respectable attempt! So “I Think We’re Alone Now” was originally by Tommy James and the Shondells in 1967. Tommy James and the Shondells: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKXuf2DvG4s The song was a major hit at the time, and rock critic Lester Bangs went so far as to call it "the bubblegum apotheosis." Don't know if I could tell you which one's better. I prefer the original, because I prefer 60s bubblegum to 80s pop. Though Tiffany's cover is distinctive enough to stand on it's own, and it tries something different. It can be a good cover without me particularly enjoying the song, right? There are two other covers I could find: the Rubinoos version from 1977, which takes inspiration from the original; and the Girls Aloud version from 2006, which is clearly based on the Tiffany cover. Y'all the Rubinoos cover is actually stallar. Forget about the other one tho shezus. The Rubinoos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHuKp8774p8 Girls Aloud: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjpbcsttFyM GENRE JUMP Bubblegum > Power Pop > 80s Pop > 00s Girl Group

Where does Weird Al’s parody fall on your rating chart?

This is another one where the original isn't bad, but I think the covers really elevated it. For my money, best version is still The Birthday Massacre version. It wasn't the first one I heard, but it's my favorite. Cheers for that getting a second shout out here! 😁https://yewtu.be/watch?v=3eMyAbg6CWQ

Oh gosh, I fr forgot he parodied this! My rating: it's cute! Not rofl, but not meh. It's a fun novelty parody that made me giggle ^_^ If I had to insert it into my totally biased ratings of the other covers, from worst to best, it'd go: Girls Aloud Tiffany Weird Al Yankovic Tommy James and the Shondells The Rubinoos ...I don't know if that answered your question >_<"

Omg no way! What a total style jump between the two lol >_< In this one I can totally hear some inspiration taken from the Tiffany version. It's got similar inflections and effects and it's in the same key, but it's got that distinct 2000s sound. It's a real fun cover!
