I use Eleven Labs to read my writing out loud to me in a natural voice, and I noticed a new feature today: Speech to Speech. You can record or upload audio, and it will create new audio of what you said using one of its generated voices. It uses your intonations and even does laughter. Here's an 8-second example that turned me into "Adam."The only advantage I can think of for this over plain AI voices is that it can do a wider range of emotions. What else?#AI #ElevenLabs #VoiceAI

@acm_redfox Yeah, suddenly I can do a whole audio drama by myself (except it would take someone far more talented than I am to actually sound like lots of different characters no matter voice skins I assign to the parts).

I guess something like this has been available before. I can change voices dramatically in my podcast editing software if I really crank on the settings.

@grammargirl Someone may not be able to type (e.g. arthritis/no hands) and have to use their voice

@grammargirl@zirk.us Audio fiction, done by a single actor. Like Scott Sigler’s stuff.

@evoterra Yeah, at the very least, it would be good for demo-ing audio drama ideas.

Follow up: It didn't work when I tried it with British stock voices. The output didn't have a British accent. (I'm wondering if it just couldn't resolve the British accent with my somewhat exaggerated Valley Girl accent.)

@grammargirl Two years ago, Veritone cloned my voice. It gave my very British voice a half-British, half-American accent. It was very odd. (Here it is)

@grammargirl sorry to hear you're in favour of using the product of theft. LLMs suck.

@grammargirl I was bit to surprised to see the definite article, since it often seems to imply there's only one British accent and having once offended a couple of lovely young Mackems by asking if they were Geordies, I know "it ain't necessarily so"🤦♂️

@grammargirl Thanks for the plug for Eleven Labs. Cool!
