I haven't watched the Doctor Who special (or much Who since ~Matt Smith) but I've heard progressives online complaining that the special is too on-the-nose with its messaging on Trans rights. Which makes me chuckle for a few reasons.First, I remember how gay the new Who was when it restarted. I'm surprised anyone is surprised that Doctor Who might be didactic about sexuality or gender.

Second, progressives are the only ones who care if media supporting their cause is on-the-nose or cringe. Conservative media has been all "rogue cops are the only thing that will save society" for fifty years and no one on the right has said "HMMM but isn't this CRINGE?"

Now again, I haven't seen the special, but I don't care if David Tennant literally faces the camera and says "I, The Doctor, support Trans rights unequivocally. I vehemently oppose the growing oppression of Trans people in the UK specifically, and worldwide." I still wouldn't complain about it being on the nose. That would be awesome.

@ashfurrow he's been wearing pro-trans tshirts and trans flag themed TARDIS pins on his lapel for a while now. What did people expect?
