One of the smoke detectors had (emphasis on HAD) a dead battery and did the annoying battery chirp. I just changed all the batteries on all of them. Still chirping. History says they might stop soon, but who knows? Why is it the only indicator that smoke detector engineers have come up with is the 1.5 minute chirp? LEDs sell 10 for a penny. Just add another LED that's labeled "dead battery"This is a worthless product.Anyone really think they'll work when you need them to?

@ReadyKilowatt You are thinking like a westerner and not a chiner.

@ReadyKilowatt If the battery is dead what would power the "dead battery" led? 😜

OK I stand corrected. It wasn't one of the smoke detectors, it was the CO detector. I didn't even know it had batteries. Apparently it has been working fine for the last 10 years on a pair of leaky AA cells.

@ReadyKilowattBatteries don't just drop off to 0v, so I think that circuit kicks in after it's dropped past a threshold and can sustain itself on the last dregs of electrons from the battery. Not sure if an LED could do the same, but I'm sure there are improvements that could be made to a ~30 year old design.@FullTimeSailor

@ReadyKilowatt Same thing happened to me last month. CO detectors have expiration dates and need to be replace after 5-7 years. You might want to check yours.
