What is a word that you had read, but after hearing it spoken aloud, you realized you were pronouncing completely wrong in your head?Mine is pretty Embarrassing, and is just one of many! MISLED! I'm not even sure how to type this out for it to make sense, but it was something like:Myz-ulled

@RickiTarr I’ve always heard that mispronouncing words like this is a sign that you are acquiring your vocabulary through reading rather than by hearing it spoken. Nothing to be ashamed of, especially given the quirks in English pronouciation.

@satsuma @RickiTarr That is so true. My super smart husband is a voracious reader and I’ve lost track how many times he’s mispronounced a word.

@RickiTarr I have a very clear memory of the first word that tripped me up. I read the Peanuts comic strips (among others) as a kid and thought Schroeder was playing music by Beeth-oven. Finally saw a Peanuts cartoon on TV and was flabbergasted to hear the correct version. One of the more recent words that got me is pho.

@RickiTarr Ah dude... where do I begin? As a dyslexic person this happens to be all the time...Like for Conscience I had never seen it in print so I didn't make the connection until someone in class read it one day and I was like whwhwhhhhaaattt?//???!!!! 👀

@tim @RickiTarr I pronounce dozens and *dozens* of words wrong, all the timeI think it's because I am like a 99% textual catI watch so little video/TV/movies of any sort, listen to zero radio and functionally zero podcasts -- man, I don't even use Youtube much ....... that I don't hear enough words *spoken*
