@Mummabear Yeah, 5 is a lot of reps. The Wizard of Oz and The 10 Commandments too, i guess. Never get old. The Maltese Falcon, Casa Blanca, Hitchcock's masterpieces with Jimmy Stewart or Cary Grant. Also a few of Clint Eastwood's movies would qualify.

@autumnfrigger My wife and i often quote The Jerk lines to each other. LOVE that movie. Do you think its Steve Martin's best? Dirty Rotten Scoundrels competes. (with Michael Caine! co-starring)

@black6_ Burt Reynolds RANGE, which included understated comedy isn't often appreciated. The less well know flick "The End" that he did with Dom Deluise is another favorite of mine. Hilarious if you can handle the sensitive topic of suicide in the plot.

@ScoWer22 He and Dom had good chemistry. The Cannonball Run is another favorite, though that's due in part to Farrah Fawcett

@black6_ From the episodes that i saw (i don't watch TV since the 70's unless my mother insisted, or friends highly recommended, such as Seinfeld) THIS series was very very well-made. Wish i had the collection. Maybe i can ask my wife for the DVDs this Christmas. Burt was great and what a cast of characters!https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098790/

@justinerickson I like 5th Element but have only seen it maybe 2.5 times? Mad Max i think i saw maybe 2 times? Little did i know way back then that it was prophetic (or at least released to "scare" the population into accepting the neo-con's "vision" instead of chance the alternative hellscape). This stage? I'd rather that we do France 1790-1805 than to watch the neo-cons and their masters do their dirty work in Palestine, or elsewhere.

@thadius The Cohen Brothers' films (from St. Louis -aka Jewish- Park, MN ) same category for me as Scorcese. Both make great films, but maybe i saw Blood Simple twice? Even Fargo i saw maybe 3 times? Not a hack 'em/slash 'em graphic violence fan.

@ScoWer22 can’t explain very succinctly why I like those movies. Best I can do is they all have the trope of bad ass men taking care of people in a noble way and submissive and vulnerable, yet strong women that help the men find their love and care for humanity.

@justinerickson Yep. Gus (augustus mcrae) and even the tongue-tied Woodrow Call look out for the "women folk" in McMurtry's sagas beyond the trilogy known as Lonesome Dove. His other fictional works of Texas-OK-KS to MT trails (COmmanche Moon, etc). The women play stroong roles anyway. Like when Lori survives the treatment by Blue Duck when she is abducted to draw Gus off the trail. To each his own. But my dad was a macho cop and taught me males have certain roles and obligations. Naturally.

@ScoWer22 Ya, I am very sick of every female role now days showing women being the heroes because they can do a roundhouse kick and beat up 20 guys. It’s actually belittling to women and their unique abilities, qualities, and strength.

@justinerickson As they always say (but also true in this case), if you have the time to read the novels, the books are better than the movies. Yet I watched the movies 5+ times. If you don't have time for the books, buy the trilogy DVD set. You won't be disappointed if you like westerns. Hell, i wore out my VHS tapes before the media changed to DVD's. Tommy Lee Jones, Robert Duvall, Danny Glover, Ricky Schroeder, Angelica Huston, Bob Urich. And several i'm not mentioning whom you'll recognize.
