so til “HDTVs”, Microsoft spending a shitton of money on XP marketing, and the dot com bubble burst leading to the creation of Sony Ericsson were the reason we ended up getting the 2000s stereotypical aesthetic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_T75kgWLkI

as for Sony Ericsson, it seems it was made in-house bymy sources being… a Deviantart picture, and a random blogpost claiming he’s their friendhttps://www.deviantart.com/kanak2riang/art/sony-ericsson-logo-meaning-77552823 https://www.massmadesoul.com/se-t610

Anyway, I’ve always felt virtually all of the 2000s aesthetics and marketing were oversaturated (as in color), superpandering, way too artificial. It’s weird to see it in this light of “wow the future is here for everyone” and “look at how friendly and natural this is”.

@xerz I mainly associated this look with Wall-E.

@anjum ironic, considering my opinions on the aesthetic https://fedi.xerz.one/notice/AbTIkuJdwMJvcV9tEO(but yes Wall-E was a thing, my parents didn’t let me watch it at the time because “there’s no voice” and “it’s boring” but no shut up)

@xerz Ah I really liked it and still kind of do :> I had caused my old-old laptop to go into disrepair trying to make XP look like Vista.

@hashRaygoza I was just going to mention that: the introduction of color. Wow, what a revolutionary concept, I know! I’ll hand that one to Steve’s return to Apple and the iMac, that specific (sub?)trend was very needed.

Worth mentioning too Apple was skipped completely from the conversation, despite XP being an obvious response to OS X, as well as the iMac, iBook and iPod introducing supercolorful hardware with glossy and soft bodies into the world… but hey, I can believe XP was just more prominent and commonplace.
