@clive I got them because I'm a woman who walks alone at dawn and the last thing I want to do when wearing headphones (often I don't bother) is block out what's happening around me. I love them. I can hear the song or the talking but I can also hear the birds, footsteps behind me, cars, etc. The sound quality isn't top-notch, but I don't care. I wear them like headphones but you're supposed to wear them on your neck. I got too much hair for that, they move around.

@clive @Researchbuzz if they have their AirPods set to transparency mode, it might be okay? and the AirPods Pro can be used as over the counter hearing aids, so I think it’s probably hard to tell. That’s not to say that some cyclists or runners aren’t exercising bad judgment!

@clive I was also afraid of it too but after the day one, putting it immediately back to the case has become a natural habit. I only lost a bud one time and it was because one of my brother’s cats knocked it out of the table when we weren’t around and one of the buds flew under the couch. 😄

@clive They are annoyingly good. I tried to stay off them but ended up going to the dark side. I hate the idea that like all earbuds and most headphones these days they are basically junk after a few years. But they combine so many useful features, are hassle-free while the battery lasts and sound good too.

@clive I have an embarrassing obsession with earbuds and feel that sony wf-1000xm4 have better sound quality than my air pods pro. And it's possible (but not easy) to replace the battery... it's possible in air pods pro too... but, beyond even a modest tinkerer get a professional. That said, the "find my" function on apple products is nice and has saved me many times. I've tried many cheap ear buds and many are "serviceable" but good ones do make a difference IMO

@futurebird Yeah, I have no doubt the good earbuds are much much better sound than the cheap ones I useI do have a nice pair of wired headphones -- Grado Labs S60: https://gradolabs.com/headphones/prestige-series/item/127-sr60xThey sound really lovely! But I leave 'em attached to my desktop so they never move anywhere and I can't lose them 😅

@clive I seriously think the whole no wire earbud thing is DUMB. I stick to my around the neck ones - haven’t lost em and they work fine and feel secure. And I don’t have to dig into my locket to put them in or take them off.Someone needs to create some with nicer “string” and make that a fashion statement.

@debs I have several sets of wired earbuds -- in addition to being hilariously cheaper than wireless ones, they don't need to be charged (one less thing to worry about), and when I'm composing music on a phone, I need the near-zero-latencyThe one drawback, with an Iphone, is you can't simultaneously charge a phone and use wired earbuds(Unless you do wireless charging)

@clive @Researchbuzz I wouldn’t cycle with regular AirPods, AirPod Pros are good because you can use the passthrough mode and actually improve your hearing (although I’d be worried about honking/sirens being too loud in that case)
