Is there anyone out there who has access to the Dictionary of American Regional English and could check something for me?

@gladsdotter Thank you so much! I need to know if they say the verb "stove" means something like "to stub" as in your finger in some region. Or maybe crush or hit? Probably the Ohio area.

@grammargirl @gladsdotter following; thanks for asking. (i'm familiar with 'stove in' for badly dented or partly crushed.)

@grammargirl I particularly like the explanation that "you stub your toe but you stove your finger."

@gladsdotter @grammargirl Oooo I hope this is about a southern colloquialism. So I can fight someone about it. 😂

@grammargirl @gladsdotter "All stoved up" is something that can happen to happen to a saw or hair clippers, too.
