If you are contributing to Free and Libre Software (as developer, designer, UI/UX researcher, translator, and other roles included), how much time do dedicate to a project in the long term?(From fly-by contributor to many projects to long-term maintainer of your project)#FLOSS #FOSS #Maintainer

@Codeberg Hmm difficult choice of answers.More than "little to none", but less than 1/4 of my (free) time (and my project is hosted on codeberg 😀)

@Codeberg I guess it would depend on "what time" is this a measure of? Like, I try to dedicate 20-45% of my time to sleep/rest (rarely happens) but if I am at the higher end, it's really unlikely that even 1/4 of my time is directly dedicated to that. My "work" time, which is more like 15-45% sure? I would say that 25-50% of my work time (meaning time that would be paid if people are paying for it).

@JigmeDatse The time you spend contributing to Free Software. If this includes your work time, count it in. If you only use your spare free time for this, only consider this.

@Codeberg @JigmeDatse I still don't get the question. I spend all my FOSS time on FOSS projects. Or do you mean how much of that time is spent on a single project?

@Codeberg Just it was strange wording. I'm not sure if the .de may be a factor and it makes sense in German?

@Codeberg I'm working with one project professionally, so that's some dedication to one. Otherwise, I generally get interested in more than one project, so my time would naturally be partitioned between them, some of them more, others a bit less.

@angelo @Codeberg Yeah, if it's the amount of the time that you spend on free software, what percentage of it is spent of free software. I'd say... By definition 100% of the time spent on doing the thing, is spent on doing the thing.

@JigmeDatse @angelo The question is about the "long-term". The question was amended to make it clearer that we are asking whether you are rather a contributor to a project and moving on after your patch, or if you rather stick to few projects and are already maintaining them for years.

@Codeberg I only work on my own website (hosted using Codeberg Pages of course) at the moment. It was "most of my time" when I started, now it's "little to none" but next year it will hopefully be "most of my time" again 😅

@Codeberg If a software and the libraries it's based on count as one project, most of my time is contributing to one project.

@Codeberg Most of the time, although I'm not being paid for it sadly.SudoVanilla sadly has no sponsors or donators.
