Apple is kinda proof positive that the "free market" will not and does not allow nor encourage companies to do "the right thing" and benefit the consumers and that, rather, companies will consistently do really shitty things that hurt their customers until they're otherwise forced not to (usually by things like governments).RE: https://minidisc.tokyo/notes/9m54846rr3

@adiz this necessarily has to be the case because profit is the sole fitness function for a business. Companies end up optimizing for behaviors that make the company more profitable and allow it to continue to stay in business.

@adiz true but then again consider how slow and inept govt has been in breaking up oligopolies. might as well take your chances that reduced regulatory capture under anarchism will break even wrt competition
