believers in a soul have no problems with AI - there's a difference between AI and humans and there will always be. the same is true for proper mechanistic thinkers, it doesn't matter what the process is, a human is a machine so an AI is just the same.there is a problem for people who want to both have a mechanistic world view and also want there to be something special and unique about humans. they make tons of 'human essence of the gap' arguments, where the one thing that AI can't do well at any moment in time is 'essentially human'. the other approach is explaining away anything as 'not real intelligence', as the 'stochastic parrot' crowd tries to do.

I disagree simply by the mechanisms of our current A.I.Life, as far as we are aware, is solely carbon-based. There’s no reason it can’t be silicone based, at least, based on the similarity for creating atomic bonds / molecules (capable of storing information), however we haven’t found it yet.I refuse to accept, however, that current A.I. (Or any A.I. for the foreseeable few decades) is at the level of that of a human being. The human brain is a complex series of neural circuits working together to keep us running, a Neural Network on the other hand is more akin to a very specific piece of neural circuitry, without any of the surrounding circuits to help it out.Until we can grow an A.I. which can be observed (through analysis of its operations) to use separate Neural Circuits to achieve separate tasks and then fuse those pieces of information together than I will not accept A.I. as being “Alive”.As an addendum, the model would also have to be able to grow while running, currently we train an A.I. to a certain amount of knowledge then pull that data out and run it through a program. This is not learning in the way we understand it, but generating a pool of knowledge and then giving a program access to all that a separate brain was able to learn.

@lain seems kind of like demons to mein the sense that it's a form of technology that humans are not actually prepared to wield from a spiritual point of view. "we got a robot to think and analyze things so that means humans are just meat robots" - a very smart person probablyIt's like how some people learn about the mechanisms involved in the creation and assume that because they can understand it there is no need for a creator - as though they expect God to create a world which doesn't make sense or behave in an ordered fashionSuch knowledge is useful in one sense but ultimately incomplete and takes advantage of the fallen nature of man to convince him through pride that he should be the final authority rather than subservient to itI have no strong opinion on the souls thing I just wanted to throw that out there it's something I've been thinking for a while and I am very triggered about it
