Personally I believe if we put all the investment we currently burn on training statistics systems for code generation towards getting usable documentation and guides for using software packages everyone (professionals and learners) would be way better off.

@tante if I could only redirect a tenth of the time spent by influencers looking for followers/engagement/growth hacks to teach _something_, whatever it is, to someone else, I feel the world would be a better place. But alas.

@tante it seems like the last 40 years or so have seen a combination of complaining about how expensive the right solution is at the same time as stupid amounts of money are poured into very wrong solutions.

@tante But this technology isn't really meant to make professionals and learners better off, is it? It's meant for owners to get rid of those professionalsI'm not convinced it *can*, but the billions of dollars being spent on LLMs are being spent for that express purpose. There isn't a billion-dollar industry in better autocomplete or lying chatbots, but there would certainly be one in mass-layoff-as-a-service.

@tante we would have to train developers how to write useful documentation and tutorials, and as I've discovered repeatedly over 20+ years, no one will fund that.

@tante true. It’s a much harder problem than the LLMs currently solve. It would require creating useful models of code and restating those models in natural language. It would involve actual “understanding” instead of word association tricks.
