If you do a lot of cutting and pasting (like pasting things to multiple social media networks), access to your clipboard history is incredibly helpful.I've started using Raycast on my Mac, and it feels life changing, especially for including #AltText. Before, I created a temporary doc where I put my post and the alt text for the image. Then I had to go back and forth, cutting and pasting, cutting and pasting. Now with three keystrokes I can access both pieces of text.

@grammargirl How does it do with passwords? I use a password manager, and I occasionally have to copy a password from it into an app or website. I was shocked to learn that Parallels Tools' clipboard history showed my passwords in clear text!

@richardgunther Wow. I just tested it, and it treats copied passwords like any other copied text. I guess you would actually expect that. How would it know it's any different?

@grammargirl I looked up Raycast and it seems to do a lot. I use Jumpcut for that particular function. Clicking on an icon in my toolbar shows a list of the most recent text I've copied. It's incredibly handy, for example when I want to post a quote or quotes from an article and also the URL. I can just grab all those things on one visit to the webpage and then paste them into whatever it is I'm writing.

@ichris Right! I've been using Raycast for about 3 weeks, and I'm a total evangelist.

@bodhipaksa Exactly. I still have to remind myself to copy everything I want at once to be most efficient, but it's just great.I especially love that I can get away from so much mousing.I also use the Quicklinks a lot. I can open a Google Doc in three keystrokes that used to take navigating through multiple folder levels.

@grammargirl Good point. I guess maybe an option to exclude copies from certain applications might solve that, but I don't even know if that's possible. Appreciate you testing it to find out!

@grammargirl @richardgunther I use Maccy as my clipboard manager. You can exclude some apps (such as password managers) and it'll ignore anything copied from them. Infact, it comes with a default ignore list of password managers. Also, unlike Raycast, it is open-source and doesn't include any telemetry.https://maccy.app

@grammargirl Never heard of Raycast before. Just looked it up. . . I'm all in favor of keyboard shortcuts, as long as they don't fight with each other.

@grammargirl I use a different app, SuperTab, that lets you determine whether clippings are tracked from a given app. I would *assume* such a setting would be available in Raycast, seems like a no-brainer. On the subject of SuperTab, you can have a row for text clippings, image clippings, or combined. It gives you a visual representation of the clipping in the icon, but a preview pops up when you mouse over. One click on the icon and the clipping is pasted into your doc. Iāve become addicted to this app for the ease of use in that regard. Note also thereās an option to treat text as āplainā - no more handwringing over pasting in a different format!(Sorry for the grainy image, one thing I *couldnāt* figure out was how to take a screenshot with the SuperTab interface visibleā¦)

@MichaelPorter @richardgunther You're right. Raycast has the ability to block clipboard history from specific apps. There's so much you can do with it I haven't figured everything out yet. Thanks!

@grammargirl As long as Iām recommending apps, CleanShot X is great app for taking anything on your screen, including *any* text, and turning it into something pasteable. Has a bunch of annotation tools. If you just want to grab text, TextSniper is my go to. The only limitation to these apps is if you are viewing DCRM-protected video, like in Prime Video or Apple TV - no text will be detected. These apps are life-changing, I just regret they became available after I retired from teaching š¢

@grammargirl Glad you found it. clipboard history is something i use everyday. I primarily use Alfred on Mac, but just recently decided to give raycast a try. i also love Alfredās snippet manager. Since youāre a master wordsmith, you should be using a snippet manager š

@awoodsnet Thanks! I use Text Blaze + simple Mac system text replacements. I didn't know things like Text Blaze were called snippet managers. I have just been calling it a fancy text replacer. :)

@grammargirl text replacement is typically the term used when itās just a few words. Snippets are typically for larger pieces of text/copy.

@grammargirl One of the many uses I have for it š It's also great for copying text that wants to be a link, or that your computer doesnāt see as selectable text, or, or, or... Itās amazingly useful.
