All insurance is a scam, but #ccw insurance is the biggest scam of all. Just pay a retainer to a local attorney who you know will answer your call at 3AM.If people think dealing with home or auto insurance is bad, just wait until you’ve been unfortunately forced to discharge your firearm in self defense. Great business to be in, though. Write whatever bullshit policy you want. Add a “does not cover illegal or criminal acts” clause. Set up a “claim denied” auto-mailer and start printing.

I disagree that all insurance is a scam, but yeah, a lot of it is.I only take insurance when mandated or for risks I cannot reasonably cover

@eriner Yeah, I had to involve a lawyer the last time I had to have insurance pay out. WTF... now you need a lawyer just to get what you'd been paying into for years as an insurance against something that happens just in case. In the case of car insurance, you're even required to have insurance (for good reasons, but still).

Why is it by definition a scam if not mandated?My company handles infrastructure for large clients, if an employee of mine makes a mistake, the damages go up so high quickly that I can never cover them, so I insure those.

@HumanAction_HandyMan my favorite anecdote is that the Virginia mall prankster shooter’s call to USCCA was (attempted to be) admitted into evidence by the prosecution. Notably, he wasn’t calling his attorney but his insurance company, so the fact of the call and arguably the content of the call is not covered by attorney client privilege.Also, he was represented by a public defender and not USCCA because they denied his claim lol

@eriner I used to do some work in that mall. That far north people get comfortable forget its still VA. The home of Madison.That is a perfect example I wasn't aware that they worked to use that call against him. Worst part is the prank guy survived.

Nope. I have collected on others though. I should probably note I'm not in the US (EU), for whatever difference that makes.The only insurance I know here that did not pay out a freelancer of mine is income insurance when he got his COVID shot, but experimental medicine is explicitly excluded in the policy.

@eriner You are right. There are a lot of options prior to drawing a firearm. I couldn't say how i would react. regular people don't get in your face for fun, usually it has an event leading to. I roll around with an aggressive demeanor just so the normies make way.

@gvs Insurance is a bet that something bad might happen.Gambling is a bet that something good might happen.I have never understood why one is a pillar of society and the other is a "disease".How much of insurance industry is rip-offs can be debated. In general, the mandatory insurances are probably a lot worse, since the option "don't want" isn't on the table and the providers know this.@eriner

@eriner Try finding drone insurance. Total BS. I had a company tell me if I was flying my drone under their policy I would lose my policy. Then they told me I needed a separate EIN to get drone insurance. WTF?!

@ndz 107 pilot here, as well. The company I fly for is getting audited by their insurance co. and they JUST told me I need drone insurance by 1/1/24. Every insurance company I’ve talked to basically told me to go stick my head in a rain barrel. If the insurance company is doing an audit and they know what they require doesn’t exist…. You can also have the whole value returned to you if you end up not needing their services.How much you’re pre-paying depends on the attorney’s billing schedule. Your only real choices are (good) local attorneys, so first step is to find them. Call around. Look up some local court records.

@Dan_Ramos @eriner My parents had a similar issue. Storm hit and tore the roof off of their house as well as the neighbors'. Neighbors' paid out without issues, parents' didn't. Mom broke down crying at work because they didn't know what to do. Luckily she worked the reception at a law firm. One of the lawyers asked what was wrong and then asked if it was OK if he spoke with the insurer. It took less than ten minutes and they were asking her when the contractor could come and start...

@miketheswede @eriner Lucky her. I only got PARTIAL reimbursement (about half) even with the lawyer involved. Ultimately, still worth it.. but WTF? Would have been cheaper for BOTH sides if they didn't do that.

@maxburn @HumanAction_HandyMan yeah you want a criminal trial attorney who has defended people in your area. Ideally, specifically one who takes second amendment cases. Best if they can reference cases in your state / county that they have tried (and then you can go home and read the records of).

@eriner I've been OK with Allstate for both home & auto insurance. It is a way to manage costs over the long haul.My home warranty is good in a couple ways- if something breaks it gets repaired or replaced by the HW company. No questions.- I used them for referrals for a few other things. Like getting an electrician to do an aluminum inspection & putting in a new circuit.
