       @mjg59 in practice it's far less exciting than it sounds, but it is still a very cool technique and area of study. PDX is a pretty common trick in oncology studies.

       @mjg59 on this note, there was a research lab a while back that showed you could take a pig's heart, strip it back to the collagen and other fibrous material, then regrow patient-derived human tissue back over it using stem cell cultures, creating a kind of xenografted organ that could be transplanted without the need for aggressive immunosuppression.

       @mjg59 every time I give blood I do a double take at the "have you ever had a XENOTRANSPLANTATION" question which is suspicious enough without the Unnecessary Capitalization.

       Ok I checked with a neuroscientist friend at the conference and she points out it plausibly means sticking human neurons in animal models and that makes far more senae

       @mjg59 There have been a bunch of research projects lately with human neurons in e.g. rats demonstrating that they can fuse with the rat brain, detect signals from the rat's body, and generally be studied in a much more realistic environment than a petri dish.
