       Ever had a neighbor who's all chatty and friendly one day, and the next, they barely acknowledge you? It's like those followers who enthusiastically interact with your posts, boosting and commenting, only to abruptly unfollow the next day. The whims of social interactions, online and off. #NeighborQuirks #SocialMediaLife #FediverseStories #FickleFollowers #OnlineOffline

       @stefano I was about to unfollow you, because you know already that I'm a deadpan 😑

       @stefano Is it a whim or a calculated "test phase" of a transactional person to see if you can give them something of value in exchange for their "friendship"?

       @stefano Just saying. On previous server/instance ... somehow, i lost some people from my 'follow' list. I believe, sometimes it's not their fault. I had nice people, and one day i found not having full list. But i do not exclude cases where people do this intentionally.

       @fluxwatcher You're a very nice person to interact with, and I'm really glad to follow you and that you're following me. 😉 (and I know you love joking)

       @fast_code_r_us It's possible. Rarely does this phenomenon happen after months, but usually within a week/ten days. Initially, I thought that the person started following me due to a specific interest but then was not interested in subsequent posts - and that's more than understandable. But when you see a fairly tight interaction and suddenly, without apparent reason, there's a void, it could be as you say: the interaction had the sole purpose of attracting followers/attention. There's still, even among some users of the fediverse, the usual race for a higher number of followers rather than the quality of them.

       @sourcerer This is possible, in some cases. It has happened to me too, but mainly when I have migrated between instances, or if there has been some problem with the instance (they tested blocklists, etc.). In general, among the merits of the Fediverse is the presence of many admins and many instances, among the defects is that not everyone really knows how to manage an instance - which does not just mean running a 'docker compose up -d', as many believe.

       @stefano some people are fickle...
