@Eiregoat well, there were more than just one pair of the clean animals and I think deer fell into that category... so, there would have been 7 pairs or more of deer along with the other clean animals. Just a thought. Or, the painter didn't know much about those deer he was a painting...either way, the Bible is right and there can be some wrong interpretations. https://www.gotquestions.org/animals-clean-unclean.html

Eh... I won't turn this into a religious hellthread, but the original sumerian version of the story is much simpler, he only takes a few domestic animals.

@Eiregoat 3. Do you always defer to 'the experts' for your conclusions? I am assuming you place your faith in the expert testimony of the people that claim your 'original account' and that they could not have made any mistakes.

       > why bring up religionI didn't, you did:> either way, the Bible is right and there can be some wrong interpretationsEarlier versions of the "raft and the flood" story long predate jewish versions (not to mention jewish culture itself). They're also much simpler and more realistic.Occam's razor says the jews borrowed a particularly common story in the region, embellished it and rewrote it with their ancestors as the stars. It's not the only story they copied, the bible is full of them.

@Eiregoat Even if your writing is older, it is something to consider, not doubt. However, even if it were an earlier writing, does it also stand up to other scrutiny? Does it mean that no one else had an earlier account in a land that had probably been a culture and time when much of their history and memory was rather passed by story telling and not writing? Also, just because two people recount an event that neither one were present at the event, who do you believe?

       > Does it mean that no one else had an earlier account in a land that had probably been a culture and time when much of their history and memory was rather passed by story telling and not writing?Yes, the sumerians. The geological record shows that the persian gulf flooded a huge region pushed back the coastline by a couple hundred miles shortly before their civilisation began. They lived in marshes and built rafts of reeds for trade and living space during floods, so it's likely that the refugees of that inundation escaped with livestock, tools and seeds, then composed the original, which was later recorded in clay when their descendants developed a writing system.
