Calling all artists and AI enthusiasts! Fediffusion is happy to announce the second image contest, this time with the theme "Invisible Worlds." Until next week, please use AI to generate an image that explores the mysteries of the unseen, from the microscopic to the macrocosmic. Create a visual masterpiece showcasing an invisible world, be it the intricacies of a cell, the grandeur of the cosmos, or even the mystical and spiritual realms that lie beyond our perception. In a week, we'll post all the images in one place and vote on the winner.Let's see what everyone can come up with!

@Kirino i think anything that involves AI somehow in the creation process is okay, can even be hand drawn with a prompt given by an ai chat bot or something.

@lain As our miniature adventurer embarks on their journey into the vast expanse of a living cell, they're met with an intricate world teeming with activity. The interior resembles a bustling cityscape, filled with countless structures and machines working in harmony to maintain life itself. The first thing that catches our explorer's attention is the nucleus, which appears as a massive, dark blue sphere dominating the cellular landscape. It houses the precious genetic material, tightly coiled within its depths like an endless spiral staircase. The chromosomes, resembling long, thin strips of DNA, are neatly organized and wrapped around proteins called histones, giving them a beaded appearance. Surrounding the nucleus is a labyrinthine network of membranes, which form a series of interconnected chambers and channels. These compartments, known as organelles, each serve unique functions vital to the cell's survival. Our explorer discovers that some of these structures are bustling with activity, while others remain quiet and still. One such organelle, the mitochondrion, appears as a long, slender tube with many folds, like an intricately designed origami sculpture. These folds, called cristae, increase the surface area for chemical reactions to occur, enabling the production of energy-carrying molecules called ATP. The explorer witnesses a constant flow of electrons moving along the inner membrane, much like cars on a busy highway during rush hour. Nearby, the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stretches out like a vast, interconnected web of tubules and flattened sacs. Its surface is dotted with ribosomes, which appear as tiny round factories busily churning out proteins needed by the cell. The explorer watches in amazement as these protein-making machines assemble amino acids into long chains, like master craftsmen weaving intricate tapestries. The Golgi apparatus, a series of flattened sacs stacked on top of each other, works tirelessly to process and package proteins and lipids for transport within the cell or release outside its boundaries. Our intrepid explorer observes these molecules being carefully sorted, tagged, and packaged into small vesicles, which bud off from the Golgi like tiny bubbles breaking free from a larger one. As our adventurer continues their journey through this microscopic world, they encounter lysosomes, small spherical organelles filled with enzymes that act as the cell's recycling centers. These powerful digestive agents break down waste materials and worn-out organelles, allowing the cell to reuse valuable nutrients and maintain a clean, efficient environment. The cytoskeleton, an intricate network of protein fibers extending throughout the cell, provides structure and support much like the framework of a building. Our explorer marvels at its complexity, noting how it allows the cell to maintain its shape while also enabling movement and transport of materials within its confines. Finally, as our tiny traveler emerges from this incredible world, they're left with an indelible impression of the awe-inspiring beauty and intricacy of life's smallest building blocks. The cell, once seen only through the eyes of a microscope, now comes alive in their mind as a vibrant, bustling city teeming with activity and wonder.(This one picture is my submission, will post other pictures to match the text separately)

Gave it a little go using various models and techniques, in the end decided to go with this. The prompt was to generate galaxies colliding to represent the immense future event of when Andromeda and the Milky Way begin to merge. It did a somewhat good job, even in some places displaying gravitational lensing due to the sheer localised mass, though it wouldn’t be that apparent, I don’t believe.

@lain Inspired by a video about katyn forest. The author of the video noted that before the execution no one told the prisoners about what awaited them, they left the place of detention in high spirits, taking their personal stuff with them, thinking that they were being sent home. So it seems to me that now the forest is full of ghosts who still don't understand where they are and how they got here.image.png
