@onan I think that even if AGI arrived tomorrow, the actual replacement of people doing *physical* work is going to take a long time, longer than my lifetime. The amount of time involved in producing machines to replace all of the lifting, loading, cleaning, etc that humans do now will take an eternity. True security is in jobs where you do something with your hands and aren't paid too much. Those guys in the article though, working in economics and finance? Yeah, they're screwed next week.

@kinosian You may be right! Here's a different scenario I can imagine:People put on an exoskeleton that guides (voice, image, pleasure chemicals, pain induction, combinations of all, etc.) them to their job that day in the service of the AI. The pay is food & not being recycled yet. So it's not robots assuming all human jobs, but robot monkeys on our backs assuming all human jobs.Or: all of one industry is automated (trucking?) & those millions riot to be fed.Or: :jrbd:

@onan Producing those exoskeletons would take time and resources, and honestly wouldn't be worth the effort. AGI will be smart, smarter than us, and optimal usage of resources is part of that package. We'll either be completely replaced by automation directly controlled by AI, or we'll be trundling away for a couple of bucks from our AI rather than human overlords for the quite some time, probably some combination. It's those people who use their brains to work that are really in trouble!
