       @BrodieOnLinux I also donated when I saw the "Keep Thunderbird alive" screen.  Its an awesome CTA screen IMO. It looks cool and given that #Thunderbird is something many individuals and businesses heavily rely on every day, the chance that they are willing to donate to "keep it alive" is very high.Showing the screen upon major update is also impactful, because you see the progress they are making and more willing to say thanks.

       @BrodieOnLinux personally, I'd be ok with your second proposal, where that popup appears every time a new major version is released. I don't want nagware on my desktop, and certainly I don't want to be more or less forced to pay something for the right to freely use my computer, because then we're taking a step towards windows and that kind of stuff. However, that doesn't mean the idea itself is bad, and if not presented agressively, I think it can be a great discovery method

       @BrodieOnLinux Brodie, we love your energy, and we totally agree! There are ways to fund FOSS and it's okay (more than okay, really!) to ask for donations in a respectful way to keep our developers and maintainers funded and our projects alive! 💙 💰

       @BrodieOnLinux That's very much like I was thinking. About six months ago I thought to myself, I should really make a donation to @thunderbird because I've been using their software since it pretty much came out, done more installs than I can remember and because I'm dying (cancer) it was about time I gave a little back. Thing is though, I kept forgetting but it wasn't until I did a recent install and the 'pop up' for want of a better description appeared that I actually did.
