@stux This is essentially what I have done with my yard. I spread wildflower seeds every now and then but I get a pretty decent return of flowers every year.

@stux or you can apply some permaculture around your existing lawns.I’m doing that for my front lawn now, whilst my backyard is no longer a “yard” alone, but a food forest packed with fruit trees with herbs and vegetables all under the trees all over the back. It has reduced my water bill significantly and given me double the yield in food because they all nurture one another while keeping the other healthy from pests. Life changer, I’m telling you!

@stux @Bette It has to be wild enough to be a health hazard for the county to do anything about it here. I mow the "lawn" (it's mostly weeds) once or twice a month and no one's said a word about it because it hasn't been a problem.If you have an HOA, they can mandate those kinds of bullshit rules, but cities and counties tend not to be nearly as restrictive
